FaceThyFear Recipe Feature: Hunter’s Fall-Off-The-Bone Ribs
At FaceThyFear, we believe in celebrating the simple joys in life—like sharing good food with great people. This week, we’re featuring a recipe from Hunter, a friend I met at Recovery Place over two years ago. Hunter’s journey and his passion for cooking inspire the kind of connection we strive to create in everything we do. Today, we’re diving into his tried-and-true method for making tender, flavorful ribs. Trust me—you’ll want to bookmark this one.
Hunter actually invited me over for ribs one day, and I swear by them! This recipe might not be the one he made for me, though—he’s still keeping that one a secret. Maybe one day, he’ll share it with the world, but I might have to trade him one of my own recipes to make that happen! (He already knows one of my secret ingredients for spaghetti, so the stakes are high.)
Hunter’s Legendary Ribs
Ingredients:
• A rack of ribs
• Mustard (for coating)
• Bad Byron’s Butt Rub (Hunter swears by this seasoning, and it’s easy to find in most stores!)
• Apple cider vinegar (for spritzing and adding to the foil)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prep the Ribs:
• Remove the film from the back of the ribs (this ensures tender, fall-apart meat).
• Coat the entire rack with mustard. Don’t worry—this isn’t for flavor; it helps the seasoning stick.
• Generously cover the ribs with Bad Byron’s Butt Rub. Go heavy-handed—this is where the magic happens.

2. Marinate:
• Let the seasoned ribs marinate overnight in the fridge. This step allows all those flavors to soak into the meat.
3. Cook Low and Slow:
• Set your smoker or oven to 250°F.
• Cook the ribs for 1.5 hours per pound (around 4-5 hours total, depending on the size of your rack).
• After about 3 hours, once a nice bark (crust) forms on the outside, spritz the ribs with apple cider vinegar to keep them moist and flavorful.

The key to perfect ribs: maintaining that steady 250°F.

4. Wrap and Finish:
• At the 3-3.5 hour mark, remove the ribs and double-wrap them in foil.
• Add a little apple cider vinegar inside the foil before sealing it.
• Place the wrapped ribs back in the smoker or oven and cook at a lower temperature (150-200°F) for 1.5-2 hours.
The final step: wrap the ribs to lock in moisture and flavor!!!

5. Serve and Enjoy:
• Carefully unwrap the ribs, and prepare to be amazed. The meat should be tender, juicy, and practically falling off the bone. BAM—Hunter’s ribs are ready to enjoy!
Why We Love This Recipe:
Hunter’s rib recipe is a reminder of how something as simple as a home-cooked meal can bring people together. From its overnight marinade to its slow-cooked perfection, these ribs are proof that good things take time—a lesson that resonates deeply with the recovery journey.
