Old Bags, Old Music, New Mentality

By Malcolm Pannell

I was scrolling through Instagram yesterday, watching some motivational content, when a particular video hit me. A guy was talking about the power of urgency—the “do it now” mentality. He made a solid point: If you look at the most successful people, they act with urgency. They don’t wait. They don’t hesitate. They move.

That message stuck with me, and instead of just thinking about it, I acted on it. I had been meaning to bag up some seeds to give to people, so I got up and started doing it. While looking for bags, I came across some tiny ziplock bags—the kind I used to use for narcotics many years ago. That moment hit different. What once represented self-destruction now had a whole new purpose.

As I was bagging them up, I had Spotify playing my “Liked Songs” playlist. This playlist has been with me for years, untouched, a time capsule of my past life. Out of nowhere, an old Young Thug song came on. There I was, filling up bags, listening to the same kind of music I once moved weight to—but this time, the bags weren’t filled with poison. They were filled with life. Seeds. Growth. Change.

I laughed to myself at the absurdity of it all. Old habits, flipped on their head. Then, as if the universe wanted to drive the point home, a 50 Cent track followed. The nostalgia was real, but the mentality was different.

It’s crazy how life shifts. I used to think I was trapped in my cycles, but here I am now—same world, same things around me, but I see them all differently. The tools of my past destruction have become the tools of my future. My old habits aren’t gone—they’ve just been rewired. The hustle is still there, but now it’s for something real.

As I finish writing this, a quiet piano solo is playing in the background. Life has changed so much, and all I can do is laugh.

Because God already knows what time it is!
