Welcome to Rooted in Growth, the new gardening section of the FaceThyFear blog! This year, we’re going beyond just growing plants. It’s about growing ourselves, nurturing our mental health, and building a community where we support each other. There’s no excuse when it comes to starting this journey—whether it’s through gardening, creative expression, or connecting with others. This is art! This is love!

Get Your Garden Plans in Order

Spring is just around the corner, and there’s no better time to start planning your garden for the year. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced grower, now is the time to take action. I’m kicking off this year’s garden by starting seeds indoors, proving that you don’t need fancy equipment or a big budget to make it happen.

This year, I’m growing Kentucky Wonder beans, tomatoes, cantaloupe, bell peppers, and okra—all for $1.25 for four packets of seeds. I’m also using seeds I harvested from last year’s crops, including okra, sugar baby watermelon, and even some special Stokes potatoes that I kept alive through the winter. These potatoes were gifted to me, and I’ve shared from them before. I plan to grow and share even more this year!

Let’s show that, no matter our circumstances, we can make things grow. Now is the time to think about what you want to grow, what space you have available, and how you can make the most of it.

How I’m Starting My Seeds Indoors

1. Damp Paper Towels: I moisten a paper towel and place my seeds on one half, folding it over to keep them in place.

2. Ziploc Bags: The paper towel with seeds is placed inside a labeled Ziploc bag, creating a little greenhouse environment.

3. Windowsill or Refrigerator Top: I’m placing some of the bags in a warm spot on top of the refrigerator, and others on the windowsill where they can soak up sunlight.

This simple setup creates the perfect conditions for germination. It’s an easy, low-cost method, and anyone can do it.

A Call for Community and Growth

This journey isn’t just about the plants—it’s about you, about us, and about showing that we can grow, thrive, and create together. I want to hear from you, and I want to support your journey. Gardening is more than just planting seeds in the soil—it’s about sowing the seeds of community, connection, and love.

To encourage you to start your own garden, I’m offering a limited supply of okra and sugar baby watermelon seeds from last year’s harvest. If you’re interested, send me an email, and I’ll send you some seeds—just a little something to get you started.

Let’s get those garden plans in motion, whether it’s a single plant on a windowsill or a full backyard garden. The time to grow is now.

Let’s Grow Together

Gardening is a form of art, and when we grow something, we’re creating something meaningful. Let’s make this space a place of inspiration, reflection, and growth. Together, we can cultivate more than just plants—we can cultivate resilience, creativity, and love.
